Purchasing your Porsche is a very exciting day but when buying a pre-owned Porsche there are some things that you need to be aware of and the team at Velocity Motorwerks can help ensure you that you are making a good purchase.

Not all Porsche owners understand what it takes to keep their investment healthy and enjoyable and they may have skipped services or ignored items that may need attention. Its also a sad reality but there are some who would be untruthful about the condition of their vehicle and what services they have actually performed.

There are many things to be aware of and below we will cover them and explain how we thoroughly inspect Porsche's before you make the commitment.

First Things First

The Dreaded IMS

There have been many studies and articles about the IMS issue that plagues many earlier Porsches but one thing is for certain, this can be an engine killer and should be addressed ASAP.

During the pre-purchase inspection our technicians will check to see if your potential purchase has this very necessary upgrade.

The only product on the market that is trusted by reputable Porsche technicians and is the only true solution is the IMS Solution upgrade from LN Engineering.

As an owner of a 996.2 this was the very first thing I addressed. For more information on the Porsche IMS click the link below.

Bore Scoring

Sadly, many Boxster, Cayman, 911, Cayenne, Panamera, and Macan engines with Alusil or Lokasil engine blocks will succumb to cylinder bore scoring. Although there are many things you can do to help slow the process most 3.6 and 3.8 Porsche 911 996 and 997 engines as well as with the 3.4 engine used in Cayman S and late Boxster S will eventually have to be rebuilt.

Never fear! We have many hours of experience rebuilding these engines with upgraded Nickies from LN Engineering to make your engine stronger and more reliable than ever.

Timing Chains And Guides

Over time timing chains stretch and wear along with guides breaking down. During our inspection we check for signs of wear and degradation.

By checking oil filter media and dropping the oil sump we can quickly see if the guides are starting to fail and alert you before it becomes a major issue.

Timing chain wear can be checked by looking at camshaft deviation numbers in the DME.

AOS Failure

AOS failure is fairly common and can cause symptoms ranging from excessive oil consumption to misfires to Check Engine light being on.

When the rubber membrane fails it causes and internal vacuum leak that causes excessive crankcase vacuum. This can be remedied by replacing the unit and voila! You're back on the road.
