7 Most Common Ferrari Problems We See In Our Florida Auto Repair Shop

November 28, 2025

Ferraris are built to be driven, and Florida roads are a great place to do it. Heat, humidity, and salt air do add stress, though, and a few patterns show up in our St. Augustine shop again and again.

Here are the seven issues we see most often, how they show up, and what helps prevent a small concern from becoming a big bill.

1. Sticky Interior Switches and “Gooey” Trim

High humidity and heat can break down certain soft-touch coatings. Window switches, HVAC knobs, and dash pieces may feel tacky and collect dust. Beyond the look and feel, sticky buttons can stick in place and confuse controls. Cleaning helps only for a while.

The lasting fix is refinishing or replacing affected pieces with updated coatings that tolerate the Florida climate better.

2. Battery Drain and Electrical Gremlins

Modern Ferraris draw some current even when parked. A marginal battery or weak tender leads to low voltage that triggers odd warnings, slow cranking, or a no-start after a week of sitting. Heat accelerates battery aging. A quality maintainer, good ground connections, and a preventive battery test every season keep the car ready.

If parasitic draw is high, we trace it circuit by circuit and repair the cause rather than masking it with frequent charging.

3. Brake Squeal, Vibration, or Dust From Hard-Working Brakes

Performance pads and large rotors make great heat, which can glaze surfaces and squeal at low speeds. Coastal moisture also flashes rust onto rotors overnight, adding a morning chirp. If you feel a pulse in the pedal, rotor thickness variation or pad material transfer may be building. Gentle bedding after pad or rotor service, proper hub cleaning, and torquing the wheels evenly help keep the pedal smooth.

For ceramics, inspections matter, since improper pad choice or grit can score expensive discs.

4. Clutch Wear and Slow Shift Quality (Dual-Clutch or F1 Systems)

City traffic, short trips, and hot-soak restarts are hard on clutches and hydraulics. Symptoms include a judder pulling away, delayed engagement, or a hesitation when selecting first or reverse. On some models, clutch wear readings are available through diagnostics and help plan service before a slip turns into a tow.

Keeping software up to date, fixing small leaks at the actuator early, and allowing a brief idle before selecting gear on a hot day improve longevity.

5. Cooling System Seepage and Overheat Warnings

Radiator end tanks, hose quick-connects, and water pumps can weep in high heat. You may smell coolant after a drive or notice a slow drop in the reservoir. A Ferrari that runs a little warmer in traffic and cools on the highway is telling you to inspect now. Pressure testing when cold, checking cap performance, and looking for dry pink residue on fittings find small leaks early.

We replace tired hoses and clamps in sets so the system stays sealed through summer.

6. Suspension Bushings, Ball Joints, and Alignment Drift

Wider tires, precise alignment, and stiff geometry give the steering feel you expect, but they also wear rubber faster in heat. Creaks over speed bumps, inner-edge tire wear, or a wheel that sits slightly off center are common clues. Coastal air can also corrode exposed hardware. We measure ride height, inspect control arm bushings and joints, and set alignment to spec for your tire choice and use.

Doing this before a long trip saves tires and keeps the car calm on the interstate.

7. Exhaust Rattles, Valve Issues, and Check Engine Lights

Exhaust valve actuators and vacuum lines see high temperatures and can stick or leak. Rattles at idle, valves that stay closed in sport modes, or intermittent catalyst efficiency codes are typical outcomes. We verify vacuum supply, test valve function, and check oxygen sensor data to separate a control fault from a true catalyst problem.

Heat shielding that has loosened will also rattle; re-securing shields beats replacing parts that are working fine.

What Prevents Repeat Visits

Ferraris like regular, thoughtful use. A tender when parked, warm fluid before heavy throttle, and fresh oil on time reduce wear everywhere. Rinse the underbody after beach drives to keep salt at bay. Plan short inspections around seasonal changes: battery and charging check in late summer, cooling system check before long trips, and alignment and tire inspection after any wheel or suspension work. Small habits keep the car feeling crisp and avoid chasing symptoms.
